Determining freelance rates
Freelance pricing is not just about matching market rates; it must support your personal cost of living and business overhead. Unlike employees, freelancers pay for their own benefits, equipment, office space, and vacation days, and must set aside a significant portion of income for taxes.
This calculator uses a bottom-up model: starting with target net income, adding monthly expenses and tax reserve to calculate the required gross revenue, and dividing by annual billable hours (weeks worked times hours per week).
